Contraconus sp. 2 3/8” or 58.80mm -un-named and un-described Ultra-Rare Collected in the Golden Gate Member (Petuch Unit 3 or 4, Upper Beds) of the Tamiami Formation on 02/02/20. Aggregates Pit, Lee County, Bonita Springs, Florida. Piacenzian Pliocene 2.58-3.0 M.Y.A. Collected by: Melanie Briskin. Identified by: Dr. Ed Petuch. This was identified as undescribed and unnamed. Rarely complete like this one. Ed Petuch says he believes these came from deeper water and the specimens that made it to the reef platform, were carried by hermit crabs and were badly worn. A great rarity in Contraconus collections hence they have great value. Extremely rare in few collections.
